So rather than just post about it I've decided we should do it! So I'm announcing the inaugural edition of the Occupational Therapy Carnival which will be published on the 9th March.
For those of you who don't know:
A blog carnival is a type of blog event. It is similar to a magazine, in that it is dedicated to a particular topic, and is published on a regular schedule, often weekly or monthly.[1] Each edition of a blog carnival is in the form of a blog article that contains permalinks to other blog articles on the particular topic. But why have one? As more and more OT bloggers appear using a carnival offers an opportunity to harness our collective enthusiam and knowledge in one place. For people who dont use the internet so much it can be a great digest of recent OT blog activity and gives a way to connect. Blog Carnival explains:
There is so much stuff in the blog-o-sphere, just finding interesting stuff is hard. If there is a carnival for a topic you are interested in, following that carnival is a great way to learn what bloggers are saying about that topic. If you are blogging on that topic, the carnival is the place to share your work with like-minded bloggers. For this first edition I welcome any submissions on any topic to get us going. I would also like people to nominate themselves to host subsequent editions, and suggest topics to focus on.
Please help make this a success by contributing and publicizing the carnival. I really look forward to your thoughts.
Use the blog carnival widget on the right hand pane to submit an article and refer to the blog carnival FAQs for more information. If you need any help or information just leave me a comment or get in touch via Twitter.
I'm in!! I'll be writing about values later this week, so I'll email you with a submission once it's complete. Great idea, and thank you for putting it up into the interweb.
ReplyDeleteYeah! Thanks so much, I hope we can make this a success!
ReplyDeleteI am excited to have another OT read my blog! I have debated about just deleting it. I wish I had time to submit something for you, but honestly school is just too much. I do have some topics maybe that I am definitely interested more in. One is assistive tech with individuals with brain injuries. One of our professors has done a lot of research with using PDAs with this population. I am very interested with working with those individuals so I think anything on the topic is great!
ReplyDeleteNo don't delete it! I wrote a post about "talking into the wind" - it can be really hard to know if anyone is reading, or valuing what you write. Do you have a log of visitors to your site? That can be quite motivational.
ReplyDeleteAssistive tech is my thing so I am biased but it offers so many opportunities - take a look at my delicious tags for loads of links and info about AT.
I look forward to reading your blog (when tiem permits you to post!).
Great to "meet" you!
I apologize for my own lack of knowledge here - but do we have an organizing topic? Do we post here or on our own blogs?
ReplyDeleteHaven't done this before - would love to participate but just need the details :)
Thanks!
Chris
Hi Chris - thanks for your interest. I was a bit unsure about specifying a topic for the first ed in case it put people off so any topic is welcome. To submit you do a post on your own blog and then submit it using blogcarnival - a widget link to this is in the right hand side of my blog. Basically I (as the host) the publish a blog summary of the posts submitted with links to the blogs/posts included. This makes the carnival post a great overview of what OT bloggers are posting about and a central way for bloggers to connect with each other too. For more info on the concept of a blog carnival follow the links in the main post. Hope that is helpful!
ReplyDeleteCount me in! My blog is all about OT advocacy, so my post would have to be (at least indirectly) related to that- will that work? This is a neat idea, but you may have to walk us through it :)

Yep any topic to start us off! Basic idea is post on your blog, submit to the carnival and then the host writes a summary with links to all the submissions.
ReplyDeleteLook forward to your post!
HI Claire
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun - might be what I need to kickstart my blog back into action - doctoral study just takes up all my time :-(
Thanks for taking a look Merrolee, go on, you know you want to... would be great to have you back in the active blogosphere! That said I realise how intense your study is.
ReplyDeleteHi Claire,
ReplyDeleteI am glad you found me on the vast internet and thank you for the invitation. I find myself twittering and not blogging as much as I was, so this will shake me back to writing more posts!
It is always exciting for me to discover another blogging and twittering OT!

Hi Claire
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a great idea. I'm a Social Worker and my interests are in reflective practice, so I hope that is broad enough to cover lots of professions and I can be included in your Carnival. I'll submit something and you can see if you think it is related.
Kind regards
Helen
You are awesome...I am definitely interested....thanks for putting this together. It never even occurred to me - even though I read mom and disability carnivals regularly - to try and put together an OT one.
ReplyDeleteCome on the lady - send one in, the clock is ticking and it wouldn't be right without one of the most prolific and honest OT bloggers being a part of it!
ReplyDeleteOccupational therapy for children can make a huge difference in a child's life. I know a great therapist in Raleigh, NC.
